Up Next We Have a M95 Steyr Mannlicher Straight Pull Carbine Rifle Chambered in 8x56R, The infamous Austro-Hungarian Empire supplied its military with the M95 and or the M95/34 during its powerful reign. Guess I need a bayonet for it too if they are even still around. Does anyone know if the 8x56R en bloc clips work with the original 8x50? I’ve heard that single loading these can break the extractor on ejection and spare parts are probably unobtainium. I’v been reloading for maybe a year now and at some point I’m going to try to load some 8x50.
I was thoroughly embarrassed at the time but at least I gave the guy selling it to me a good laugh. It was employed by the Austro-Hungarian army throughout World War I, and post-war by both Austrian and Hungarian armies. Turns out it’s a bitch and a half to get the bolt back in so I ended up buying the rifle in two pieces. Steyr Mannlicher M95 (M1895) & M95/30 The Steyr-Mannlicher M1895 rifle is an early bolt-action rifle, designed by Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher. Humorously when I went to see the guy to buy it I pulled the bolt out thinking I was smart to check the bore condition. Even back then I was hoping it was the OG long rifle in 8x50 when my dad mentioned his friend had “ an old Steyr rifle” for sale even though I knew I wouldn’t get to shoot it much. I bought this back in high school nearly a decade ago for $100 along with 9 rounds of 30’s Bulgarian surplus ammo. Clearly it has normal surplus wear but overall pretty nice shape.
Its in pretty good surplus shape considering it was made in 1915. NOTE: Our consignor does have an original example of the rare bayonet for this model rifle, should the purchasing customer be interested at additional cost.Steyr-Mannlicher M1895 in the original 8x50R Mannlicher cartridge, the only surplus gun I own that I’ve never fired. Just a fantastic example of a rifle that you rarely see in this condition. The handguard is sharply marked externally. The stock is in fantastic condition, though the cartouche on the right side is somewhat faded. The original blue rates at 90-95% with minor thinning and scuffs on the barrel, and a little bit of wear on the magazine. The rifle has matching receiver, bolt, safety, magazine, trigger housing, rear sights, barrel and barrel bands.

Around 1900 the native Werkplaats voor Draagbare Wapenen in Hembrug started assembling rifles from parts shipped in from Austria, then began manufacturing parts, then in 1904 took over full production of the M.95. While exceptional in quality, one of the biggest thorns in the Dutch side was the high cost of these rifles. General production began at Oesterreichische Gesellschaft Waffenfabriks in Steyr, Austria.
